LISTEN: John Oates on Touring with Train, Staying Busy and His Solo Adventures

John Oates from Hall & Oates is one busy individual.

He’s getting ready for an extended arena tour with longtime partner Daryl Hall, but it’s not like he’s been sitting around waiting for something to do.

I talked to John about what he’s been up to lately, on "Seacoast in the Morning" on 98.7 The Bay on Friday.

The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee now lives in Nashville and says he really enjoys being around all the talented people who live there, too.

He and his solo band The Good Road Band just released the album “Arkansas."

He said it's a joy to explore his early roots with the kind of music he was making before he met Daryl Hall.

“That’s where the Arkansas record is coming from," Oates said.

He’s been on the road touring in support of his latest solo effort and just finished that tour last week.

He’s putting that aside for now though to tour with Hall & Oates and Train for the arena tour.

"It’s all about playing good songs with good musicians," he said. “I’ve got the best of all worlds. I get to do the solo thing, then, get to play with the great Hall & Oates band, too. We go play songs people seem to know and love, and still want to hear. It’s a great situation.

“You can expect the usual suspects. We have a lot of hits. People come to hear those hits, and we proudly play them. And, we’ll have some surprises too! We’re going to get together with Pat Monahan from Train, whose such a great singer. Pat’s been on Daryl’s TV show, and I’ve been on the Train Cruise through the Caribbean."

They’ll do an encore with Train as well.

The tour kicks off in Sacramento in May and ends up in Seattle in early August. Hall and Oates pairs with Train on “Philly Forget Me Not.” It's the first new Hall & Oates release in 15 years.

Hall & Oates with Train will play at the Xfinity Center on June 7 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

After this tour, John says he'll take a little time to re-group. Then, it’s the Americana Music Awards in Nashville in September before heading off to the United Kingdom in October for more solo tour dates. Like I said, he's one busy individual.
